January 29, 2018
If you suffer from anxiety, you are not alone. In fact, according to the National Alliance on Mental Health, one out of every five adults in the U.S. suffers from some type of mental illness each year. The good news is, there may be a simple (and fun) way to manage your anxiety.
Get Back to Nature
Studies show that noise and pollution such as those in cities can cause psychological distress, cardiovascular disease, sleep issues, and high blood pressure. Those who live in populated cities versus more rural areas experience more anxiety, but it seems like a good dose of nature can help.
Being outside in nature releases dopamine, a feel-good chemical in the brain. Research indicates that the closer you live to open, green space, the fewer things bother you and the less stressed you are. Your body responds by having fewer stress hormones, lower blood pressure, a stronger heart rate, and more relaxed muscles. Here are some fun ways to help feel less anxious and enjoy optimal mental health.
